Q: How often should I have my boiler serviced?
A: Appliance manufacturers usually recommend that your boiler is serviced once every twelve
Months.
Q: What gas appliances do Gasco service?
A: Gasco carry out servicing on boilers, gas fires, water heaters, wall heaters & cookers.
Q: Does Gasco service LPG appliances?
A: Yes. Gasco engineers are also qualified to service & maintain domestic LPG appliances.
Q: Does Gasco service only domestic gas appliances?
A: Yes. So long as your appliance is rated as domestic & not commercial, Gasco can
perform a service.
Q: What does a service involve?
A: The appliance will be checked for safe & correct installation that must conform to latest
Industry standards. The major components of the appliances will be removed where possible,
cleaned & replaced. Gas operating pressures are checked to ensure correct combustion (this
will also ensure that your gas appliance is operating as efficiently as possible). The flue
system is also inspected for any obvious defects that may prevent the appliance from
exhausting potentially harmful fumes.
Q: Does Gasco service condensing boilers?
A: Yes. Because Gasco engineers regularly attend industry training courses, we remain fully up
to date with the servicing requirements of condensing boilers. By using the latest in flue gas
analyser technology, Gasco engineers are able to follow manufacturer's servicing guides to
ensure your boiler in safe & performing as efficiently as possible.
Q: Does Gasco use their own engineers for servicing?
A: Yes, all Gasco engineers are qualified to latest industry standards & will carry out the servicing
of your gas appliance(s).
Q: How do I book my boiler service?
A: You can book your service by calling Gasco's office on 01746 762000 & select option one.
Here, you will speak to one of our office staff who will arrange a visit by an engineer.
Q: Can I designate a specific time for my service?
A: Because each service visit may differ in duration, coupled with unknown traffic conditions,
Gasco are unable to offer specific time slots on the day of your service. However, you can
choose to book an AM call between 08:30am & 12:00 noon, or a PM call between 12:00 noon
& 5:00pm. If you provide a telephone number, Gasco are happy to call you prior to the
engineer's visit.
Q: How can I pay for the servicing of my gas appliances?
A: Gasco engineers will carry a copy of your invoice. You can either pay there & then by cheque,
Or you call the office on 01746 762000, select option four & pay by credit or debit card.

A: Yes. Gasco engineers are qualified to carry out maintenance work on domestic LPG
appliances.
Q: Does Gasco repair condensing boilers?
A: Yes. Because Gasco engineers regularly attend industry training courses, they remain fully up
up to date with the maintenance requirements of condensing boilers. By using the latest fault
finding techniques, Gasco engineers are able to diagnose faults with your condensing boiler.
Q: Does Gasco use their own engineers to carry out repair work?
A: Yes, all Gasco engineers are qualified to latest industry standards & will carry out the
maintenance work on your gas appliance(s).
Q: How quickly can Gasco respond if my boiler breaks down?
A: Gasco will always try to attend to your breakdown on the same day you report it.
Q: Can Gasco supply spare parts for my boiler?
A: Yes. Gasco have a long standing relationship with the largest spares networks in the UK &
are able to quickly locate most spare parts for domestic gas appliances.
Q: Does Gasco repair general heating faults, i.e. radiators, pumps, controls & water leaks?
A: Yes. Gasco engineers are fully trained on all central heating & domestic hot water system
components. These include pumps, radiators, radiator valves, diverter valves & controls.
Gasco engineers will also trace & repair water leaks on your heating & hot water pipework.
Q: How do I request a maintenance visit from Gasco?
A: You can arrange a visit by one of Gasco's engineers by calling 01746 762000 & select option
two. You will speak to one of our office staff, who will ask you for a brief description of the
fault, & then arrange for one of our engineers to call.
Q: How can I pay for the repair of my gas appliances?
A: Gasco engineers will carry a copy of your invoice. You can either pay there & then by cheque,
or you call the office on 01746 762000, select option four & pay by credit or debit card.
Q: Does Gasco install condensing boilers?
A: Yes. As Worcester Bosch Accredited Installers, Gasco install a range of their Greenstar
condensing boilers.
Q: Does Gasco use their own engineers to carry out installation work?
A: Yes, all Gasco engineers are qualified to latest industry standards & will carry out the
installation work on your gas appliance(s).
Q: What is a condensing boiler?
A: In a conventional boiler, fuel is burned and the hot gases produced are passed through a heat
exchanger where most of the heat is transferred to water. This, in turn raises the water
temperature which is then used to produce your heating & domestic hot water.
Once the usable heat has been extracted, the remaining hot gases are then fed to the flue
& expelled into the atmosphere at temperatures up to180c.
Fundamentally, a condensing boiler works in much the same way. The hot gases are passed
through a heat exchanger & the usable heat is transferred to the water, raising its temperature
which is then used to produce your heating & domestic hot water. The difference with a
condensing boiler is that the remaining hot gases are not wasted into the atmosphere
through the flue. Instead, they are passed through a larger heat exchanger (sometimes two)
which extracts further useful heat which contributes to heating & domestic hot water output.
This result of this process means that the hot gases are cooled, & are expelled into the
atmosphere via the flue at about 55c. One of the hot gases produced in the combustion
process is water vapour (steam), a by-product of burning the hydrogen content of the fuel.
As the condensing boiler extracts the latent heat from the exhaust gases, the water vapour
loses its heat content & condenses to form water droplets.
The condensate is collected in a trap, built into the boiler and is emptied automatically once full.
this condensate waste is then fed to a nearby storm water drain point.
Q: Why are condensing boilers greener?
A: A condensing boiler will utilise a higher percentage of the heat that it generates from burning
fuels such as gas or oil. A conventional boiler, on the other hand, wastes a large proportion
of the heat it generates into the atmosphere.
A condensing boiler will recover most of the waste exhaust gases & extract the heat. This heat
is transferred to the returning water from your central heating system, so less heat is required
from the burner. This means that less gas is used.
Q: What is a combi boiler?
A: A combi (short for combination) boiler provides heating & domestic hot water directly from the
boiler. This means there is no need for hot water storage.
Q: What is a regular boiler?
A: Regular boilers heat your central heating system directly and produce hot water for your
cylinder.
Q: What is a system boiler?
A: A system boiler, just like a regular (conventional) boiler works on the principal of stored
hot water. However, a system boiler differs from a regular boiler in some important
respects. Firstly, many of the major individual components of the heating and hot water
system are built into a system boiler, which means that installation is quicker, neater &
more efficient. Secondly, the hot water is pumped from the system boiler through
the heating system to the radiators and hot water cylinder, resulting in a fast response
and more economical running costs.
Q: What guarantee do I have with my new boiler?
A: As Worcester Bosch Accredited Installers, Gasco can offer you a manufacturers
5 year parts & labour warranty. The heat exchanger fitted to the boiler carries a
10 year manufacturers warranty.
Q: Can I claim any grant aid toward installing a new boiler?
A: Not at present. The Warm Front scheme has been discontinued by the Government.
